This is the largest public/private land conservation project known in the State. The Trust for Public Land has coordinated the acquisition of 171,500 contiguous acres of northern New Hampshire forested lands from International Paper Corporation. A steering committee, chaired by Governor Jeanne Shaheen and Senator Judd Gregg, and with members representing numerous local, regional and statewide interests, guided the disposition of the lands: a permanent conservation easement on 146,400 acres of private land; the fee-title transfer of 25,000 acres to New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game, with a permanent conservation easement to be held by The Nature Conservancy; and the transfer of 100 fee-title acres to the State's Division of Parks and Recreation. ...
