DOE SEP Conservation Update: Stories from New Hampshire Conference participants inspected electric bicycles, go-carts, and on-road vehicles along with student-installed solar and wind energy systems. Teachers learned how student projects such as energy audits of school buildings, student-built electric vehicles, and student-installed renewable energy systems can be used to motivate students and teach a variety of subjects that meet today's educational standards. The conference provided teachers with educational resources, examples on how to fund projects, and the basics of project research and development. ... [Read More]
ATSDR - PHA - Cardinal Landfill, Farmington, Strafford County, New Hampshire The major current use of carbon tetrachloride is in the production of chlorofluorocarbons, such as Freon11 and Freon 12, which are primarily used as refrigerants [57]. In 1991, production of carbontetrachloride in the U.S. was 315 million pounds [57]. WRD of New Hampshire and Vermont - Contoocook River "Visible" Gage Educational Site house that is used to measure, record, and transmit ... A stage-discharge relation or rating curve (fig. 6) is used to relate river level to associated streamflow discharge. The rating curve for a specific stream location is developed by making successive discharge measurements in order to define and maintain a stage-discharge relation. These discharge measurements and their corresponding stages (or gage height) are then plotted on a graph for each station. Continuous discharge throughout the year can be determined from the rating curve. Factors such as ice cover, debris, and vegetation growth can affect the stage-discharge relation and the data must be checked periodically to ensure accuracy. ... [Read More]

President's Remarks at Ask President Bush Event in Derry, New Hampshire I believe we ought to -- I believe we ought to make sure S-CHIP,which is the low-income children's health care program, is accessed byeverybody who is deserving of that program. We want to help these kidswith good health care. I believe that we ought to continue the reformsof Medicare. I went up the D.C. to solve problems, not to pass them onto future Presidents and future generations. We had a problem withMedicare. The system was not modernized. It would pay for $100,000for heart surgery, but not one dime for the prescription drugs thatwould prevent the heart surgery from being needed in the first place. That made no sense for our seniors. It made no sense for thetaxpayers. We have modernized Medicare by giving seniors more choices, prescription drug cards, preventative care for the first time, and in2006, prescription drugs. Federal Trade Commission Dealers and lenders offer a variety of loan terms and payment schedules. Shop around, compare offers, and negotiate the best deal you can. Be cautious about advertisements offering financing to first-time buyers or people with bad credit. These offers often require a big down payment and a high APR. If you agree to financing that carries a high APR, you may be taking a big risk. If you decide to sell the car before the loan expires, the amount you receive from the sale may be far less than the amount you need to pay off the loan. If the car is repossessed or declared a total loss because of an accident, you may be obligated to pay a considerable amount to repay the loan even after the proceeds from the sale of the car or the insurance payment have been deducted. If your budget is tight, you may want to consider paying cash for a less expensive car than you first had in mind. ... [Read More]
New Hampshire Even if New Hampshire enacted all the protections in the Patients’ Bill of Rights, 610,000 people in New Hampshire cannot be assured they have the comprehensive patient protections recommended by the President’s Advisory Commission. This is because the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) may preempt state-enacted protections. That is why the President has called on Congress to pass a federally enforceable patients’ bill of rights so that everyone enrolled in managed care may have a basic set of protections. Notably, 290,000 New Hampshire women are in ERISA health plans and are therefore not necessarily protected. Women are particularly vulnerable without these protections because they are greater users of health care services, they make three-quarters of the health care decisions for their families, and they have specific health care needs addressed by a patients’ bill of rights. ...
