In 1989, the Colorado River Commissioncompleted its incremental purchase of 15,000 acres of federal land in the FortMohave Valley near Laughlin, Nevada. Congress had optioned the land to theColorado River Commission for development. The Colorado River Commission'sresale of the land to developers generated the money necessary to make theentire purchase; no state general funds were used. A considerable number ofhousing developments were constructed to assist the expansion of Laughlin'seconomy. Over $15 million of the proceeds from the Colorado River Commission'sFort Mohave land sales were made available under state law to financestate-and-county approved capital projects in the Laughlin area, includingroads, a government center, fire station, water and sewer works and other neededinfrastructure.
