The Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) of Office of Research and Development's National Exposure Research Laboratory conducts research, development, and technology transfer programs on environmental exposures to ecological and human receptors. ESD, located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, develops methods for characterizing chemical and physical stressors, with special emphasis on ecological exposure. The Division develops landscape and regional assessment capabilities through the use of remote sensing and advanced spatial analysis techniques. NASA - Robots' work extends beyond physical tasks in Las Vegas.
One of the other mentors, retired NASA engineer Tom McMullen, said the Las Vegas competition was "an eye-opening event" for the new students on the team. When the Tehachapi robot suffered three breakages in one practice round, the team had to make quick substitutions of parts and rebound with a functional, if slower, iteration of their machine. Participation: We are an ARC tutoring program which is housed in the Literacy Development Center at the University of Nevada,Las Vegas. We formed a collaborative literacy network with the Clark County School District in the fall of 1997. We provide tutoring services to five local elementary schools which have been deemed to be high-need schools. We generally employ 25-40 tutors who serve upwards of 180 children.
