“The NCAA and its member colleges and universities cannot have it both ways.   It is a complete contradiction for colleges and universities to continue to take money from beer companies whose ads glamorize drinking and target a youthful audience, and then devote time, energy, and resources in the fight to discourage the same students from engaging in underage and binge drinking.   Too often, college personnel are confronted with alcohol-related consequences—poor academic and disciplinary behavior, security concerns, assault, date rape, and death.   These terrible outcomes are not at all glamorous.” Rep. Helms entered the Coast Guard during the summer of 1961 and served four years on active duty. In 1980, he reenlisted in the CGR and was assigned to MSO Baltimore. After many years in law enforcement, he returned to Nebraska in 1990 where he is presently Reserve Supervisor, ATON program, for the CGC Gasconade (WLR-75401). He and wife Linda, married 30 years, serve some "down home cookin'" to their community as they own and operate the Main Street Cafe in Johnson. Dr. Sirott grew up in the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.  He attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg Virginia, where he received a bachelor of science in biology in 1998.   He attended the Illinois College of Optometry where he received his optometry degree in May 2002.  Dr. Sirott then completed a one year residency training program in ocular disease at the Huntington VA Medical Center in Huntington West Virginia.  After completing residency, he moved to Spokane to begin practice.  In addition to being on staff at the Spokane VA Medical Center, he is currently in practice at Five Mile Eye Care in Spokane.  Dr. Sirott is a member of the American Optometric Association as well as being active in the American Academy of Optometry.  In his spare time he enjoys cycling, photography, and anything outdoors. ...
