I just visited the Kalispell Job Link Workforce Center and saw firsthand what they are doing to help workers access training and find good jobs. One of the most important things to know about the economy is that lifelong learning and retraining are the keys to building a successful career in the 21 st Century workplace. Our economy is changing rapidly and new jobs are being created. But many of these require updated skills and training. That's why the President announced a new job-training program in Januarythe Jobs for the 21 st Century Initiative. It will expand the ability of community colleges right here in Montana to train workers for jobs in high-growth industries and link them with employers. Station history The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Fishery Assistance Office wasestablished November 1962 by order of President John F. Kennedy, in Kalispell, Montana.The station was established to provide fishery management services to the Blackfeet IndianReservation in Montana. Three other Montana reservations and Glacier National Parkwere receiving fishery assistance from the Portland, Oregon Fisheries Assistance Office. The logistical need to consolidate these Montana operations was apparent. InMarch of 1980, the Kalispell Fishery Assistance Office was combined with the CrestonNational Fish Hatchery to officially form the Creston Fish and Wildlife Center. However, this was changed again in 1989 when the assistance office and hatchery wereseparated, with Project Leaders being appointed for each office. Recreation.gov Hungry Horse Dam is on the South Fork of the Flathead River, 15 miles south of the west entrance to Glacier National Park and 20 miles northeast of Kalispell, Montana. The dam was built as part of the Hungry Horse Project to provide hydroelectric power and flood control. At 564 feet, the dam is the 10th highest in the U.S. In addition to static and interactive exhibits that cover local area history and the construction of Hungry Horse Dam, the Visitor Center offers free tours of the dam's crest. The visitor center is closed for the summer 2004 tourist season. The damsite is in a deep, narrow canyon. Hungry Horse Reservoir is located high in the Rocky Mountains, less than 30 miles from the Continental Divide and is surrounded by more than 25 mountain peaks. The reservoir is about 34 miles long and 23,800 acres and offers excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, water skiing, and swimming.
