The Office of State Treasurer Sarah Steelman administers the Unclaimed Property Division, the state’s largest lost and found. The state currently is holding more than $200 million in unclaimed assets. Each year financial institutions, businesses, government agencies and other organizations turn over millions of additional dollars and the contents of nearly 500 safe deposit boxes to the Unclaimed Property Division. Statistically, one of every 10 Missourians has assets being held by the state's Unclaimed Property Division. State Treasurer Steelman and the staff of the Unclaimed Property Division use a variety of resources to assist in finding the original owners or rightful heirs of unclaimed property. Under Missouri law, there is a registration requirement for any personwho enters into an agreement to collect money in return for recovering propertyfor another or performing in a representative capacity to assist or recoverproperty that has been delivered to the Missouri State Treasurer under theUnclaimed Property Act. SOS, Missouri - Elections
The Office of the Secretary of State administers all statewide elections for both candidates and issues. Candidates for the six constitutional state offices, U.S. Congress, the General Assembly, and circuit judges not covered by the non-partisan court plan, file for election with the Secretary of State. Statewide ballots for primary, general and certain special elections are also prepared by the Secretary of State, and certified copies of those ballots are sent to local election officials. The Secretary of State also certifies statewide ballot measures that are proposed by the General Assembly or through the initiative petition process. The full texts of ballot issues are published in the newspapers around the state and printed for display at polling places.
