Changes to Medicaid in Mississippi
    While it is true that the federal government offers a choice of drug discount cards for Medicare beneficiaries, and will provide a subsidy up to $600 for those with low-incomes, the discount cards are not adequate substitutes for Medicaid drug coverage.  The discount cards and the $600 subsidy are intended to help Medicare enrollees who have no other drug coverage.  They should not be used as an excuse for the state to drop Medicaid drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries.  Most of the retired and disabled Medicare beneficiaries affected by the state’s action will have much more than $600 in drug costs and will be unable to afford the extra costs.  ...
