UMESC Highlights - May 2004
On June 4, 2005 Girl Scouts of Riverland Council in western Wisconsin will participate with USGS, US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Natural Resource Conservation Service for a Linking the Girls to the Land event at Trempeleau National Wildlife Refuge. Girl scouts will participate in environmental education, outdoor skills development, and a volunteer conservation project restoring five acres of native prairie on the refuge, while also learning about environmental career opportunities. This local project was made possible through a successful grant writing and event planning partnership with the GSA council. Eight federal natural resource agencies have contributed funding and support for Linking the Girls to the Land Council Grant projects which encourage GSA councils across the country to develop collaborations that encourage Girl Scouts to become leaders and stewards of conservation. ...
