For the 1998 Winter Quarter, Mankato State University has implemented a pilot group of students to participate in the AmericaReads program. These students tutor children after school on-campus. They are funded through the Federal Work-Study Program. The Financial Aid Office has been working closely with the Education Department at our insitution to ensure that the tutors are selected and placed to best meet the needs of the children they serve. For the current quarter, our AmericaReads tutors are focusing their tutoring services on elementary school children with disabilities. These tutoring services are being coordinated by Peg Ballard, a faculty member in our Education Department. Mankato State University plans to increase our tutors in the AmericaReads program to 40 to 50 for the 1998-99 Year. Her clinical work is in the Program for Traumatic Stress Recovery Clinic primarily with outpatients with trauma histories who manifest mood, anxiety, and/or substance use disorders. She is the Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy (TLDP) training coordinator. Special clinical interests include behavioral interventions for insomnia/sleep disorders and she is also involved in the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy consultation group. Dr. Wagner completed her BA at the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, her MA at Minnesota Statue University, Mankato, and her Ph.D. at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. She completed her clinical internship at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. She holds a rank of Adjunct Professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota.
