Minnesota's Moose Mystery - Moose Hunting Permits 1971-1997
Moose hunting began in 1971 in northwest Minnesota. In 1985 hunting was closed in the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area in response to low moose densities. Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge closed moose hunting in 1994, and permit numbers were greatly reduced in Viking. Viking was closed to moose hunting in 1997.
