camping is permitted in the monument by hiking from four to eight and one-half miles and reaching the western end of the Grand Portage near Fort Charlotte. There is no charge for backcountry camping, but a Backcountry Camping Permit is required which can be obtained and completed at three self registration boxes located along the Grand Portage.
