All reptiles and amphibians native to Indiana are protected by law. Box turtles cannot be collected from the wild at any time. Species of frogs, lizards, salamanders, snakes, toads, or turtles on the state or federal endangered species list may also not be taken at any time. Species specified as game animals (see table below) may be collected from the wild with a hunting or fishing license and must obey season dates, bag limits and use legal trapping methods. An individual with a valid hunting or fishing license may take game frog and turtle species from a DNR property where hunting or fishing is authorized. Weekly Fishing Report
On the Grand River near Grand Rapids, anglers have caught good numbers of northern pike while fishing the deep holes near the stream mouths with chartreuse spinner baits. Catfish numbers have been low. Good numbers of walleye have been caught in deeper waters using crawlers. On the Thornapple River, anglers have been getting limit catches of walleye with a few measuring up to 23 inches. Fishing has been good on Reeds Lake. Bluegill and specks have been caught using wax worms and leeches. On Lime Lake, lake trout have been caught while fishing 5 feet down in 30 feet of water using wax worms. The best catches have been during the late evening hours and after dark. On the Grand River near Lansing, fishing has been good for walleye. Anglers have had good catches using minnows below the Moore’s Park and North Lansing Dams. At Sleepy Hollow, good numbers of catfish and bluegill have been caught.
