The Massachusetts team members are getting plenty of construction experience as part of this project. They are evaluating some of the concepts for their Solar Decathlon house in test buildings on campus. One, called the "Grid-in-a-Box," provides the entire infrastructure for a code-compliant home: electricity, potable water, wastewater retention, cable, and telephone. The Grid-in-a-Box may form part of the competition house during the 2005 Solar Decathlon. ... The Massachusetts team is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to encourage the incorporation of sustainable technologies into Habitat homes throughout the country. The team's competition house will be built in the parking lot of a Washington, D.C., Home Depot—a Solar Decathlon sponsor—during the summer of 2005 and transported on a flatbed truck to the Solar Decathlon site.
