History of Maryland State Parks
The Department responded to the demand for parks by hiring “District Park Supervisors.” Ralph Peace, Don MacLaughlan and Dave Hathway were three of the originals who worked under the District Foresters exclusively on State parks and State forest recreation areas in their respected districts under Bill Johnson, Joe Henderson and John Mohr. So the Department supported the park effort with some funds and some staff. But it was just the start of expanding and increasing state park initiatives. Meanwhile, the extensive forestry programs, now with 50 years of progress, had won numerous budget battles, and was well staffed and funded and doing important work reforesting the State and knocking down forest fires. But also, forestry was advancing and slowly initiating a state park program for Maryland that, in time, would evolve into one of the nation’s premiere systems of state parks. Interim Report on Best Practices For the Employment of People with Disabilities In State Government
Maryland’s Disability Mentoring Day uniquely combines an experiential first-hand view of state government work with workshops that may assist participants with disabilities to gain state employment. Participants are recruited from the state Division of Rehabilitation Services, the state Workforce and Technology Center, and field offices in the Baltimore metropolitan area, and assigned for the day based on each individual’s training area and/or career interest. P&L is also responsible for the activities of the Minority Business Enterprise Office (MBE), Inventory Standards and Support Services Division (ISSSD), Visual Communication and Digital Imaging (VCDI), and Records Management. MBE maximizes the business DGS conducts with minority-owned businesses participating in the State procurement process. ISSSD oversees Statewide inventory of equipment, supplies and other materials. ISSSD also administers the State’s 87-station Fuel Management System, including four compressed natural gas fueling sites, and the Department’s fleet.
