In an average year, MCC members will remove hundreds of hazardous trees from parks, assess 300 miles of Chesapeake watershed steams, plant thousands of trees, conduct dozens of park improvement projects, maintain hundreds of miles of Maryland’s trail network, assist in the study and restoration of Bay species, fight wildland forest fires, conduct operations and programs in State Forests and Parks, support the improvement of Coastal Bays, help preserve Maryland’s rich historical heritage, and provide environmental education programming for roughly 10,000 Maryland students. ... Pending before Congress are two legislative proposals that, if passed, would fund state initiated quality improvement efforts--the Nursing Home Staffing and Quality Improvement Act of 2001, and the Medicare and Medicaid Nursing Facility Quality Improvement Act of 2002. The Nursing Home Staffing and Quality Improvement Act is aimed at promoting staff recruitment and retention and improving nursing home quality of care. The Medicare and Medicaid Nursing Facility Quality Improvement Act of 2002 would permit alternatives to the federal survey and certification process for nursing facilities in up to eight states and includes language that would allow survey and certification staff to provide TA to facilities. ...
