To improve community safety and sex offender accountability, the Legislature increased penalties for sex offenders, especially those whose victims are under 12 years old, and extended the length of probation. The Legislature reduced sentences for some misdemeanor crimes and increased the use of time off for good behavior in order to free space in prison for the most serious offenders. The bill also eases the pressure on probation through the use of supervised community confinement and two new sentencing alternatives, but not on crimes involving sex offenses, domestic violence, or repeat operating under the influence offenses. ...
