Called the anti-lottery league, 959 delegates from all but six parishes convened that day to hear passionate anti-lottery speeches by Edward D. White, Murphy J. Foster and others. The convention eventually approved a resolution calling upon the federal government to take steps to abolish lottery activities. ... 1868 - The Louisiana Lottery is established to become a major industry in the state. Faced with what it perceived to be the loss of million of dollars to the lotteries of such places as Havana, Kentucky and Madrid, the company was given a 25 year license to operate in the state.
