01-129 Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Criminal Justice
The commission is comprised of 50 individuals whether directly employed by a criminal justice system agency, persons whose work requires contact with the system or who have demonstrated an abiding interest in criminal justice. Thirty-four members are sheriffs, district attorneys, or chiefs of police. The Office of Corrections Services, the Louisiana State Police, the Department of Justice, the LSU Law Center, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate all have representatives on the commission. Reporting to the commission are seven boards representing various components of the criminal justice system (Drug Control and Violent Crime; Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE); Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP); Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST); Crime Victims Reparations (CVR); Crime Victim Assistance (CVA); and Violence Against Women (STOP). Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals
The Adult Protective Services Law, Louisiana R.S. 14:403.2, requires that all Louisiana citizens report suspected cases of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and extortion of disabled adults. The law grants immunity to any citizen who reports in good faith and who cooperates in an investigation by the protective service agency. The law also provides for criminal penalties for persons who know of incidents and fail to report or who knowingly make false reports. ...

The Consumer Protection/Environment Section has the responsibility of enforcing consumer protection laws in Louisiana. In the Consumer Protection area, this section was granted authority under Louisiana's Unfair Trade Practice Act (R.S. 51:1401 et seq.) to conduct investigations as necessary when the attorney general has reason to believe that an unfair or deceptive trade practice has taken place, is taking place or is about to take place. In addition, the Department of Justice is granted authority by federal statutes to enforce Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules and regulations. The section regulates charitable organizations, multilevel marketing companies, telephone sellers, and issues involving purchase and financing of new and used automobiles. In conjunction with the Better Business Bureau, the section conducts consumer awareness seminars and other activities throughout the state in order to alert the public to fraud, theft, and other deceptive trade practices.
