Waiting for kindergarten to begin formal school instruction is simply not enough. Mandatory Pre-K education should be instituted in all public schools. We need to expand the Louisiana Schools Accountability Program and continue to identify and correct the weaknesses our public schools suffer. ... Support the school accountability program. To students, this means that consistently sub-standard schools should be turned around through greater state education team involvement. To teachers, this means ensuring competency in subject areas, and links teacher pay to classroom performance and skills rather that just time on the job. To school districts, this means linking funding to actual results, and advocating state involvement in chronically low performing school districts. Archived: State Regulation of Private Schools - Louisiana Private schools that receive local, state, or federal funds, directly or indirectly, or whose students or their parents are recipients or beneficiaries of any local, state, or federal education program or assistance must cooperate with visiting teachers or supervisors of child welfare and attendance. Principals must report in writing to the visiting teacher/supervisor of child welfare and attendance the name, birth date, race, parents, and residence of each pupil in attendance at their schools within 30 days after the beginning of the school term and make other reports as required.
