(7-7-05) - BATON ROUGE - The Voting System Evaluation Committee has requested and advised the Office of State Purchasing to cancel the current Request For Proposal (RFP) regarding the purchase of a new voting system and to re-issue a new RFP. The Evaluation Committee has determined that it is not in the best interest of the state or the proposer companies to move forward under the present RFP because the committee is unable to fairly evaluate the information submitted by the voting system companies. Five of seven state certified voting system companies have submitted bids for consideration: AccuPoll, Advanced, Diebold, Election Systems and Software, and Sequoia. "This is a major league decision for the state, not only now, but for years to come," Commissioner of Elections Angie LaPlace said. "The State Houses of Louisiana" focuses on the many buildings which have served as Louisiana's seat of power in its history, from the earliest days to the modern state capitol built by Huey P. Long. ... Baton Rouge, LA-- Secretary of State W. Fox McKeithen and Louisiana's Old State Capitol announce a unique partnership with Louisiana State University's Manship School of Mass Communication. It will bring in a series of guest lecturers to speak on a variety of today's issues that deal with media and politics for the first annual Media & Politics Lecture Series. This program has been made possible through a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
