The session is open to all Kentucky residents creating traditional and contemporary crafts in ceramics, fiber, glass, leather, metal, stone, wood, mixed-media, natural/organic, and paper. Residency is defined as living in the state for at least six months prior to the jury session, and producing the majority of the craft product within the state. The jury session is scheduled for June 6-10, 2005 . New juried work is reviewed according to quality standards in the areas of originality, technique, and design. Kentucky: Craft Marketing Program - Handbook
The Program wishes to encourage the evolution of juried participants' creative work. However, work in a different medium, or work that represents a substantial departure from the work originally accepted, must be approved through the jury system. When in doubt, juried participants may submit samples of new work for review by Program staff. Written notification on eligibility, or the need to jury new work, will be provided to the craftsperson and maintained in Program files. Juried participants may not display work that has not been accepted through the jury process at Craft Marketing Program events. Kits used for the reproduction of juried participants' original designs and sold at Program events must also be submitted to Program staff for review before being displayed. The Cultural Stage presented 13 individual performers and performing groups that included artists from the Kentucky Arts Council's 2004-2005 Performing Arts Directory and the 2005 Performing arts Directory Supplement. Performances included exciting drama from the Kentucky Historical Society Theater, performers from the Governor's School for the Arts and food demonstrations from the Department of Agriculture. ...

Applicants must provide five product samples for each entry submitted. The entry fee is $20, regardless of the number of entries. Samples may be mailed in advance, or hand-delivered. Due to the upcoming relocation of the Craft Marketing Program offices, mailed entries must be received in our offices between May 16 - 27. It was a beautiful spring day as literary enthusiasts traveled to Louisville to witness the installation of Dr. Sena Jeter Naslund as Kentucky Poet Laureate for 2005-2006. There were young poets from Ludlow, Danville, Louisville and Greenup. There were past Poet Laureates from Frankfort, Sadieville and Bowling Green. Friends, family, students and former students also came from points near and far to honor the critically acclaimed author at the Louisville Free Public Library on April 14, 2005. KANSAS CITY - A Kansas City, Mo., man has been sentenced in federal court for participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Jackson County, Mo. Derby Caro-Alarcon, 29, a citizen of Mexico living in Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright on Jan. 20, 2005, to five years in federal prison without parole. ...

KANSAS CITY - A Clinton County, Mo., man has been charged in a federal criminal complaint with illegally possessing machine guns and other firearms. Richard S. Robinson, 36, of Clinton County, was charged in a criminal complaint that was filed under seal in U.S. District Court in Kansas City on Feb. 2, 2005. The complaint was unsealed and made public upon Robinson’s arrested and initial court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah Hays this morning. Over 4,300 fans came out to Icahn Stadium to cheer for many of the world’s finest track and field athletes at the inaugural Reebok Grand Prix. This meet was the first-ever international track competition held at Icahn Stadium. Highlights of the Reebok Grand Prix included six performances that were the best in the world for 2005. Ethiopia’s Tirnuesh Dibaba, the world indoor 5,000-meter record holder, won the women’s 5,000-meter race finishing in 14:32.42. Dibaba’s finish is the fastest women’s 5K time ever run on American soil and is a 2005 world-leading time. In the 110-meter hurdles, four-time world champion Allen Johnson of the United States faced China’s Liu Xiang, 2004 Olympic gold medalist and co-world record holder. Johnson won the race in 13.03 seconds. Dominique Arnold of the United States, who was leading the race after the final hurdle, came in second running in 13.05 seconds.
