This goal is a large endeavor, requiringreview of many past precipitation events in order to develop compositesurface and upper-air charts for different types of heavy precipitationproducing weather systems during different times of the year.However, this effort is valuable since such climatologies, inconjunction with scrutiny of individual weather systems, ultimatelyare quite useful to meteorologists in recognizing overall patternsand parameters that typically are conducive to heavy rainfalland snowfall. SLU project members have produced statistical analysesfor numerous years of data for warm season heavy rainfall eventsacross Kentucky and southern Indiana.
