2005 Fishing Prospects at Selected Missouri Lakes and Streams The 13 miles from Highway 160 downstream to the Arkansas state line offer great fishing for smallmouth bass and shadow bass (goggle-eye) . Smallmouth bass population density in 2004 is about 400 fish/mile with 10% of these being legal sized (over 15"). Numbers of larger smallmouth is on the rise as we continue to see the effect of the smallmouth bass Special Management Area regulation. Smallmouth numbers will vary throughout the river. Look for smallmouth in cover provided by rocks, bluffs, or rootwads with plenty of water current. Shadow bass (goggle-eye) density in 2004 was about 600 fish/mile with approximately 10% being legal sized (over 8").
