FAFSA on the Web - U.S. Department of Education
It is important to note the type of deadline you are up against. Ask your school about their definition of an application deadline, whether it is the receipt date and time or the process date and time of the application. The Department of Education considers an application's receipt date and time to be when the application/correction has been successfully submitted. The last page of the online application/correction submission process is therefore called the "Confirmation Page". It contains a 22 (if an application) or 30 (if a correction) character long "Confirmation Number". This number contains the exact date and time (Central Standard Time) the form was received. It is recommended you print this for your records. ... [Read More]

Fiduciary Education Campaign
Plan sponsors and other fiduciaries have a solemn responsibility to protect the interests of the workers and retirees in their benefit plans.  The Department's program - "Getting It Right - Know Your Fiduciary Responsibilities" - will provide employers and plan officials with an understanding of the law and their responsibilities and will focus on steps for avoiding the most common problems EBSA encounters in its enforcement activities. ...

The Delinquent Filer Voluntary Compliance Program (DFVC) is designed to encourage voluntary compliance with the annual reporting requirements under ERISA. The program gives delinquent plan administrators a way to avoid potentially higher civil penalty assessments by satisfying the program’s requirements and voluntarily paying a reduced penalty amount. To increase incentives for delinquent plan administrators to voluntarily comply, the Department reduced penalties and simplified the rules governing participation in the program. ... [Read More]

Information Quality Correction Requests FY 2004
We are aware of the reference and have prepared draft language to amend the reference and resolve the discrepancy via a technical amendment. Please note that it may be some time before the technical amendment appears in the FEDERAL REGISTER as we are combining several corrections in one notice. It will take some research and coordination to ensure that all the corrections are technically accurate and legally sufficient. In addition, the notice will need to undergo the Department of Labor's clearance process as required of all FEDERAL REGISTER notices. I anticipate that it should be published sometime in late spring or early summer of 2004, unless some unexpected delay arises. ... [Read More]
