Indiana Theaters - Historic & Cultural - Trip Ideas: Enjoy Indiana The Embassy Centre in Fort Wayne (260-424-6287) opened as the Emboyd in 1928 and served as a movie theater and vaudeville palace. In 1952, it became the Embassy Theatre and was used primarily for movies until 1972, when the owners decided to demolish the building in favor of a parking lot. Just two days before demolition, the theatre and the adjoining (and equally spectacular) Indiana Hotel were spared, thanks to the efforts of volunteers and the Fort Wayne community. Today, through corporate and personal financial support, Indiana's largest historical theater is more than saved; it's maintained, restored, and usedand listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
