The study, conducted through Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., used state-of-the-art air pollution monitors to measure the levels of fine particulate air pollution in the restaurants and bars of three Indiana cities with varying levels of smoke-free ordinances. Similar restaurant and bar locations were measured in Bloomington, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. Each location in Bloomington was tested both before and after the January 1, 2005, enforcement of an ordinance requiring all public places including all restaurants and bars to be smoke free.
