John R. Goss was appointed by Governor Frank O'Bannon as director of the Indiana DNR in January 2002. Goss came to the DNR as the 9- year head of the Indiana Division of Tourism. During his tenure there he also served on the Natural Resources Commission which oversees activities in the DNR. Prior to that he served as chief of staff for then-Lt. Governor O'Bannon and before that as deputy mayor to two mayors in Bloomington, Indiana. John is a life-long Hoosier with degrees in economics and public and environmental affairs from Indiana University. HWP Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Program
The property owner or anyone having an interest in a piece of property can apply to the program, provided the property owner allows MoDNR access to the site for its oversight activities. When a site enters the program, the B/VCP reviews existing site assessment reports and determines whether or not additional investigation or cleanup is required to meet state standards. The site investigation and any necessary cleanup are conducted by the applicant or their consultants and contractors. Site assessment reports, remedial action plans and a final report are submitted to the B/VCP for review and approval. When the B/VCP is satisfied that the cleanup has met the objectives, the department provides the applicant with a Certification of Completion or "No Further Action Letter" signed by the Director of the Hazardous Waste Program. Scott Zody was appointed Deputy Director of Recreation and Resource Management by Sam Speck in May, 1999. He is responsible for the oversight of the divisions of Natural Areas and Preserves, Parks and Recreation, Forestry, Wildlife, Real Estate and Land Management and Watercraft. Zody was the Director of Government Affairs for the Ohio Bureau of Workers´ Compensation from 1995 to 1999. He was ODNR's Legislative Liaison from 1992 to 1995. He has also served as aide to state senator Dick Schafrath and as an intern with the Ohio Legislative Service Commission. He is a graduate of Ashland College with a major in comprehensive social studies and a minor in geology.
