Governor Rod R. Blagojevich proclaimed July Health Care Month in the state of Illinois, launching a month-long effort to expand, improve and promote access to health care for Illinois families. During the month of July, the Governor will sign new laws designed to improve access to health care for working families and seniors, enact meaningful medical malpractice reform, ease the nursing shortage, provide hospitals with nearly $2 billion in new federal funds, help senior citizens afford the high cost of prescription drugs, increase critical cancer screening for women, raise awareness about various diseases, and increase funding for diabetes research. “To me, health care isn’t a privilege – it’s a right. The Office of Health Care Regulation is responsible for assuring that a high quality of care is provided by health facilities within the State. The Office of Health Protection includes programs in the areas of environmental health and sanitation, food and drug safety, milk processing, infectious diseases, and epidemiologic studies. Bloomington, Illinois – A crow submitted from McLean County on Monday, June 6th for testing has been confirmed positive by the Illinois Department of Public Health for the presence of the West Nile virus. The crow was collected from the south side of Bloomington on June 3rd and tested at the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. This is the first bird to be confirmed positive for West Nile virus in McLean County this year and follows a positive bird found in Woodford County earlier this spring.
