Comment: "Regarding the recent tragedy involving James Beach, the 10 year old struck by a car in Ocean Acres; 1st, Before anyone starts placing blame on the town or the police department for something that wasn't their fault, how about starting the education regarding scooter/bicycle safety in our own homes. Educate your children about how to SAFELY!!! have fun. I was in my vehicle driving on Nautilus Drive in the area of the firehouse and their were young kids standing on the street corner trying to raise money for their friend, James which was very considerate and admirable on their part. But at the same time, one young girl that was among the group of 3, was riding her scooter in the MIDDLE of Nautilus Drive with fairly moderate vehicle traffic, riding without a helmet! And also may I add, unsupervised, no parents in sight to see their daughter in the middle of a busy roadway a few weeks after their friend was also struck. Real estate sales and construction activity remained at high levels in most District states, although the pace of growth slowed in some areas. Condo and single-family home prices continued to increase in California, except for some parts of the Central Valley. Hawaii contacts reported increases in home resales, strong demand for construction on Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai, and increases in prices in areas where inventory was low. Oregon respondents wrote that construction of high-end homes slowed. Contacts from Arizona and Utah reported that homes were staying on the market longer, while, in Washington, residential sales activity and price appreciation slowed. Along the coast, hoteliers at Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, S.C., reported that their bookings over the Fourth of July holiday were somewhat stronger than a year ago. A contact on the Outer Banks told us that construction of a large number of rental homes in the area had resulted in substantial rent discounting.
