Map shows lava flows erupted during 1983-present activity of Pu`u `O`o and Kupaianaha ( see large map ). ...

0545 July 18Surfce activity is pretty subdued this morning. The three PKK branches have breakouts, mainly high in the west branch, only high in the middle branch, and spread down Pulama pali and onto the coastal flat in the east branch. All breakouts are small. The intensity of glow has diminished greatly at EAst Lae`apuki in the past 24 hours. Ocean entry remains robust, but apparently less lava is exposed at the surface to create a glow. Also, the amount of laze has lessened, also a factor in decreasing the glow.East Kamoamao, on the other hand, is as bright as it has been in some time.Rain and thick fume obscure Pu`u `O`o this morning. The video camera provides tell-tale evidence of incandescence at all major vents in the crater. Background volcanic tremor is well above the norm at Kilauea's summit, at times becoming a bit banded with alternating periods of weak and strong tremor lasting a few minutes to a few tens of minutes. Volcanic tremor is at a moderate level at Pu`u `O`o. Uweka ... [Read More]
