Florida Parishes Many New Orleans families built vacation and weekend cottages on the North Shore. Partially as a result of their presence, the region developed its own architectural stamp, the so-called North Shore house. This unique regional house type is a variation of the New Orleans shotgun. Characterized by a T-shaped floorplan, it is one room wide and three or more rooms deep. Instead of the standard narrow front porch, North Shore houses have a long and generous side gallery to allow occupants to take the air. Some North Shore houses have galleries on both sides. With their extravagant Eastlake turned columns, spindles and brackets, and copious Queen Anne shingles in their gables, these homes are the glory of the North Shore. Today, concentrations of these houses can be found in Covington and around Abita Springs. ... [Read More]

The amount Design Travel charges for its vacation has varied during the course of its operation. The telemarketers urge consumers to immediately "register for" or "secure" this vacation with a major credit card. FTC: "Operation Trip-Up" Roger S. Dolgin, who resides San Francisco, doing business as Design Travel and Design Travel of Santa Rosa , out of a Santa Rosa office. Dolgin allegedly operated a nationwide network of telemarketing boilerrooms which gathered consumer names from "win a free vaca tion" booths at local fairs or carnivals, among other methods. The telemarketers placed cold calls, sent consumers direct mail or unsolicited faxes, and operated an Internet home page, all representing that consumers were part of a select group specially chosen to receive a limited number of cruise vacations from Florida to the Bahamas worth as much as $1,500, but for which they would pay only $398, $498 or $598, if they did so immediately. But consumers actually were paying just for the option to purchase a vacation, the FTC alleged, adding that they had to pay an additional $198 to $298 to take the trip.
