Sussex County - News The Budget Committee is recommending that the County Council approve a 25 percent across-the-board property tax credit for FY 05. After 13 years of the Countys finances finishing the year with revenues exceeding expenditures, the Budget Committee believes that County finances would not be put in jeopardy by allowing a one-time 25 percent reduction. This credit would appear on the FY 05 tax bills. All property owners in the County would be eligible for the credit as long as their past year property taxes are current as of July 1, 2004. The 25 percent reduction would be deducted from the tax bill for FY 05. This rebate would only apply to the County portion of the property tax bill. Continuation of this program for future budgets would be done on a year-to-year basis. It must be understood that this is not a tax reduction, as tax rates will remain at the current level. The Budget Committee believes this will be beneficial to individuals as well as businesses in Sussex County. ... [Read More]

Sussex County - Paramedics SCEMS is a non-transporting EMS agency, using six (soon to be seven) specially designed rapid response vehicles. Our staff of 87 paramedics and support personnel provides ALS service to a 964 square mile area (the largest of Delaware’s three counties) and a year-round population of 156,000. Our summer population increases to half a million as part-time residents and tourists come to enjoy our beautiful Atlantic beaches. We answer more than 12,000 ALS calls each year, and due to our geography, 30 to 45 minute transport times are not uncommon. Transportation of patients is provided by 21 BLS transport services (with a SCEMS Paramedic on-board if the patient meets ALS criteria), or by ALS helicopter service provided by the Delaware State Police stationed in Sussex County. In many cases, the SCEMS Paramedic will fly with the patient to the appropriate medical facility. ... [Read More]
