The DC Board of Real Estate is housed in the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), Business and Professional Licensing Administration. The Board regulates the licenses of professional real estate agents and protects consumers by upholding the DC real estate license law. The real estate license law is defined by the District of Columbia Second Omnibus Regulatory Act of 1998 (Omnibus), which took effect on April 20, 1999. The Board has established pre-licensing education requirements, as well as continuing education requirements that enhance the professional abilities of agents. Once agents adequately meet pre-licensing requirements, the Board examines potential licensees through established and standardized tests. Every two years, licensees are required to meet mandated continuing education requirements, which ensure that they are kept abreast of current national and local laws.
