Colorado's Front Range is an area of rapid population growth, escalating urbanization, oil and gas development, and agricultural production, all of which are sources of nitrogen emissions. Increases in these activities result in commensurate increases in nitrogen deposition in mountain ecosystems. This has caught the attention of state air quality and environmental health specialists. More than 85 percent of FORT’s science is done in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and tribal governments.
