Pacific Flyway Council In 1953, DOW biologists began a statewide program that identified suitable nesting habitat for translocating Canada geese to establish breeding populations of geese across the state and provide increased viewing and hunting opportunities for Coloradans. Banding records indicate 9,260 geese were translocated in Colorado: 5,562 on the east slope and 3,698 in the mountain parks and west of the Continental Divide.
