The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Alzheimer’s Disease Center was established in 1989 as one of the nine California Department of Health Services Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centers (ADDTC).  The Center operates within the Institute for Brain Aging and Dementia located on the main UCI campus.   The Center provides the infrastructure and support for the recruiting and diagnosis of patients with Alzheimer’s disease, the supplying of well-characterized patients to investigators for research, the education of caregivers and professionals in the community and the translation of research into practice.  The Center seeks to extend services to minority and less represented elderly individuals through joint community programs and other collaborative.  The ARCC fulfills a unique niche.  The ARCC recruits a wide variety of patients in addition to those with Alzheimer’s disease, such as those with mild cognitive impairment, vas ... The Chinese in California, 1850-1925 illustrates nineteenth and earlytwentieth century Chinese immigration to California through about 8,000 images and pages of primary source materials. Included are photographs, original art, cartoons andother illustrations; letters, excerpts from diaries, business records, andlegal documents; as well as pamphlets, broadsides, speeches, sheet music,and other printed matter. These documents describe the experiences ofChinese immigrants in California, including the nature of inter-ethnictensions. They also document the specific contributions of Chineseimmigrants to commerce and business, architecture and art, agriculture andother industries, and cultural and social life in California. Chinatown inSan Francisco receives special treatment as the oldest and largestcommunity of Chinese in the United States. Hui-Chu received her Ph.D. degree in Health Policy and Management at John Hopkins University (1998). Her dissertation topic was "International Comparison Patient's Willingness to Pay for Cataract Surgery." Since 2000, she has been an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Hospital and Health Care Administration at National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan. Her research interests focus on pharmaceconomics, outcomes research, the economic cost of disease and quality of life. Hui-Chu has been a principal investigator for a five-year career development grant entitled "The Economic Cost and Quality of Life of Cancer Patients" from the National Health Research Institutes, Republic of China. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, she participates in the "Economic and Policy Analysis of ADHD and Stimulant Drugs" research project at Petris Center and works on international psychostimulant drug analysis.
