Investigation of Rabies Infections in Organ Donor and Transplant Recipients ---- Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, 2004
Routes of possible exposure include percutaneous and mucocutaneous entry of the rabies virus through a wound, nonintact skin, or mucous membrane contact. Intact skin contact with infectious materials is not considered an exposure to the rabies virus. Persons with exposure as defined above to saliva, nerve tissue, or cerebral spinal fluid from any of the four infected patients should receive rabies PEP. Types of exposures in domestic settings for which administration of PEP would be appropriate include bites, sexual activity, exchanging kisses on the mouth or other direct mucous membrane contact with saliva, and sharing eating or drinking utensils or cigarettes. In health-care settings, additional opportunities that can lead to contamination of mucous membranes or nonintact skin with oral secretions include procedures such as intubation or suctioning of respiratory secretions or injuries with sharp instruments (e.g., needlesticks or scalpel cuts). Arkansas School for the Deaf
Mr. Hill directed the Board’s attention to the front page of the newsletter and the article regarding the EXCELL program held at Ferndale.  Mr. Hill’s participation in the activity was documented with a picture of him up on a high wire during the program.  The EXCELL program is used to teach young people the skills of leadership and help them develop characteristics when dealing with an unfamiliar situation and provides them with independent actions.  The activity took place forty feet in the air where the participants were harnessed to a cable so they would be caught if they fell.  Mr. Hill stated that it was amazing to see the students negotiate the obstacles, such as wobbling tires, wires, etc.  The students did a fantastic job.  The first person to complete the course was a totally blind student and did it in record time.  At the end of the course there was a cable that ran down hill approximately the length of a football field.  The students ... Judical Ethics Advisory Committee
The Committee further stated that the issue here is whether the Code bars a spouse from participating in a non-judicial political campaign. We note that the Commentary to the Code states that family members are free to participate in other political activity. Further it is questionable whether authority exists to bar relatives, who do not serve as public servants, from political life. ...

The Arkansas Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee issued an advisory opinion stating that a judge may not solicit funds in person, by telephone, or by letter from individuals or corporations to support a reception to be held following a continuing legal education seminar sponsored by the Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers nor may the judge solicit funds on personal stationery from her residence, but the judge may suggest to the organization the names of potential donors and participate in the planning of fund-raising, and non-judicial members or employees of the organization may contact donors if they are careful not to suggest that they are acting on behalf of or with the knowledge of the judge. The Committee noted that Canon 4C implies that a judge may personally participate in "private" fund-raising, but stated that private fund-raising should be interpreted as limited to narrow situations involving, for example, fund-raising among relatives and other judges. ...
