Floodflows Measured in Central and Northern Arizona USGS crews in Arizona were called into action on Dec. 30 and 31, 2004, to measure floods resulting from a powerful Pacific storm that dropped heavy rains across central and northern Arizona. Granite Creek in Prescott swelled from about 0.7 cfs to 4,100 cfs in a matter of hours and took the lives of two college students who tried to canoe in the creek. The highest flow since 1996, 16,300 cfs, was recorded on Oak Creek near Sedona. Downstream at Oak Creek near Cornville a peak flow of 20,300 cfs caused extensive damage to a streamside campground where motorhomes were toppled and swamped by the rapidly rising torrent. In Phoenix, the normally dry Salt River flowed for the first time since 1998 as 17,000 cfs was released from the Granite Reef Dam upstream. Arizona Gov. Rural Health Policy - Arizona The Central Arizona Primary Care Outreach (CAPCO) project will enhance health care service delivery to the primarily Hispanic/Mexican American and elderly rural populations of Oracle, San Manuel, and Mammoth, Arizona, all of which are designated as both health professional shortage areas and medically underserved areas. The top health care issues among the target population are unplanned and teen pregnancy, diabetes, high blood pressure, and substance abuse. Lack of transportation to health care facilities, especially for senior citizens; cultural issues for Mexican American patients; low income; lack of health insurance; and geographic isolation all serve as barriers to health care.
