A native Fairbanksan, Andrew Niemiec began working for the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities in the Nome office in 1982. After graduating from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks with his Civil Engineering degree in 1987, he spent three years on loan to AIDEA working on the construction of the road and port facilities at the Red Dog Mine. In 1990 Andrew worked for the Anchorage DOT&PF office as a project engineer. In 1995, he accepted a promotion as the Nome Design Engineering Manager.
