Wehle Nature Center Facilities
The Gatra Wehle Nature Center is located on Green Street in Historic Blakeley State Park, Baldwin County. An exact replica of the nature center in Bullock County, it also features conservation and environmental educational exhibits with a focus on one of Alabama’s treasures the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Wehle Nature Centers
The Robert G. Wehle Nature Center , located on 25 acres of rolling hill country in Bullock County, is designed to enhance the appreciation for conservation and an understanding of man’s relationship with the environment. It features conservation and environmental educational exhibits aimed at both students and adults. A state-of-the-art audiovisual theater focuses on the natural wonders of outdoor Alabama. A conference area/exhibit room is available for conservation meetings and hands-on nature presentations. Remote from the main building, at the edge of a small wetland, sits a viewing kiosk which gives young naturalists an up-close and personal experience with the inhabitants of Alabama's wetland. Three trails extend away from the Center, taking hikers on short, medium, and long treks through different habitats. NEA ARTS:NEA Brings Shakespeare to the Military
On September 10th, amid great excitement and anticipation, the curtain rose in a converted movie theater at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. In front of a capacity crowd of troops, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival began its riveting production of “the Scottish play” (as it’s called by superstitious actors). Outside, the theater sign announced, “No movies— Macbeth .” ...

The 13 bases that comprised the Alabama Shakespeare Festival tour included three Army, three Navy, two Marine, and five Air Force bases in 11 states from North Carolina to New Mexico. They presented more than 16 performances of Macbeth, and many more educational and outreach activities. In the spirit of theater tours of the past, the venues on each of the bases ranged from theaters to gymnasiums to, in one case, an airplane hanger. The Arts Endowment also provided multimedia resource kits for teachers and librarians on all the bases.
