Sandy, Utah Sandy is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 88,418. A 2004 estimate placed its population at 89,979, making it the third largest city in Utah behind Salt Lake City, West Valley City, and Provo. It serves as the major city of the southern Salt Lake Valley.
GeographySandy is located at 40°34'21" North, 111°51'35" West (40.572415, -111.859610)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 57.9 km² (22.4 mi²). 57.8 km² (22.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.09% water. The major residential region of eastern Sandy climbs high on the slopes of the Wasatch Range while the western section lies at the bottom of the flat valley. Interstate 15 and U.S. Highway 89 run through the western portions of the city, while the Jordan River (Utah) forms part of the western border.

There are 26,579 housing units at an average density of 459.6/km² (1,190.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.52% White, 0.50% African American, 0.35% Native American, 2.17% Asian, 0.31% Pacific Islander, 1.50% from other races, and 1.65% from two or more races. 4.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 25,737 households out of which 51.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.9% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.4% are non-families. 11.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.42 and the average family size is 3.73. In the city the population is spread out with 34.5% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 100.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $66,458, and the median income for a family is $70,801. Males have a median income of $47,031 versus $29,661 for females. The per capita income for the city is $22,928. 3.8% of the population and 2.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.0% of those under the age of 18 and 5.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
