Kalookan City, Philippines, The Caloocan City (Filipino: Kalookan) is one of the cities and municipalities that comprise Metro Manila in the Philippines. Located just north and adjacent to Manila, Caloocan is the third largest city in the country with a population of 1,177,604. Southern Caloocan City lies directly north of Manila and is bounded by Malabon City and Valenzuela City to the north, Navotas to the west, and Quezon City to the east. Northern Caloocan City is the northermost territory of Metro Manila and lies to the east of Valenzuela, north of Quezon City, and south of San Jose del Monte City in the province of Bulacan. The city's most celebrated landmark is the monument of Philippine revolutionary Andres Bonifacio at the end of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), thus taking the name of the place Monumento. The monument of the proletarian hero of the Philippine Revolution was created by the nationalist sculptor Guillermo Tolentino to mark the first encounter between Bonifacio's Katipunan group against Spanish soldiers on August 3, 1896. The monument was erected in 1933.
