Hallstatt, Upper Austria is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. It is located near the Hallstättersee (a lake). As of the census of 2001, there are 946 people residing there. Peter Scheutz (SPÖ) has been Mayor of Hallstatt since 1993.

Hall is the old Celtic name for salt and the saltmines near the village gave it its name. Salt was a valuable resource so the region was very wealthy in the past.

The village also gave its name to the early Iron Age Hallstatt culture and is part of the World Heritage List.
