Sint-Niklaas is a municipality located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the Flemish province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Sint-Niklaas proper and the towns of Belsele, Nieuwkerken-Waas and Sinaai. On January 1st, 2004 Sint-Niklaas had a total population of 68,820 (33,532 males and 35,288 females). The total area is 83.80 km² which gives a population density of 821.27 inhabitants per km². In the first weekend of September, it hosts an international balloon meeting (Vredesfeesten).
