Maitland, Australia The city of Maitland is situated in the Lower Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia, near two national highways, a 90-minute drive to Sydney and 30 minutes to the Hunter Valley Vineyards, Newcastle and Port Stephens. Consists of largely rural surroundings with an approximate 60.000 inhabitants, spread over an area of 396 km², although the main built up area predominantly forms a strip between the suburbs of Rutherford and Metford respectively.
