Viedma is a city in Argentina and is the capital of Río Negro Province. President Raúl Alfonsín proposed unsuccessfully to declare it as the country' federal Capital.

The city is settled on south margin of Rio Negro River, Conforming a beautiful scenario for all the drivers going through patagonian National Route 3.

The city was considered to be the site of the new capital city by the Argentine Government befor the hyperinflation and economic crisis of 1989. According to some sources, the government acquired a few tracts of land before the crisis. The current law on capital relocation still stands, but it is a historical relic, unlikely to be acted on for a foreseeable time. Therefore, Viedma cannot be considered as the capital designate of Argentina.
